INFORMATION WORLD: Prototype

The city, you see, is going to hell, and after 'waking up' in a morgue; your once lifeless body laid out on the slab, it's clear that something very sinister is going on. Hell, you're close to invulnerable, with a body capable of extraordinary feats of athleticism, not to mention the power to call forth blades and claws, as well as a full-body black exoskeleton from inside your skin. You leave the base and start sprinting down the street, vaulting over cars and pushing aside pedestrians, before leaping towards a skyscraper and running up its side, jumping several stories vertically at a time to reach its summit faster. From high atop the Upper East Side you have a clear view across the dense Manhattan skyline. Central Park's greenery is visible a few blocks off, while several bridges that would ordinarily be able to take you off the island – but are now locked down – are also visible along its eastern edge.

Don't be dead dude. Oh wait, you're not!

It's now ten days since the outbreak and well over half the population of the city is infected. Hives that spew out genetic material and more infected are popping up all over the city, and right now all of Greenwich, the East Village, the Lower East Side and the Financial District are infected to the south, while all of Harlem and the Upper West side are in chaos to the northwest. The Blackwatch special forces have areas of control too, and are fighting it out with the infected, but their hands aren't just dirty - they're covered in blood, and they want the virus contained – and you dead, no matter the cost. The city is now a battleground; its streets literally awash with blood and body parts.

Your role in all this is not as the city's protector. There is no real choice between good and evil in this situation; only a path to uncovering the truth. What went on in Idaho, the first time the virus was let loose? What is the role of the viral research company Gentek – and your former employer – in all this? How far will the military – and Blackwatch – go to lock down New York? Are there other super-powered people like you out there? That's what's motivating you, and if anyone gets in your way they're going to be knocked aside, often in two pieces. And with every mission completed and every foe bested, not only do you get closer to the truth, but your power grows. You learn new offensive and defensive forms, you get faster and stronger, your skills in combat evolve.
From your perch above the city you plan your next destination – one of the Hives further southwest. You take a running leap from the rooftop then dash at the apex of your jump for a little more height and speed, before settling into a long arcing glide. As you start to lose forward momentum another dash and glide gives you the distance you need to reach the next skyscraper. You gracefully run along one of its gleaming sides before jump-boost-gliding off it and onward. It's at times like this that it's easy to forget the chaos below and simply revel in the joy of freeform movement.
You snap back to reality, however, when you realise an unmanned surveillance drone has picked up your location, and two attack choppers are now pursuing you. Locking on to one of them, you toss an air conditioning unit at it from a nearby rooftop, then switch to your Whipfist form and take a running jump towards it, gliding until close enough to transition into a flying kick and do some real damage. As you fall you then lash out with the whip, latching on to it and tearing it apart. That's one out of the way. You want the other one for yourself, which takes a bit more skill, but eventually you're able to grab on to its body, get inside and take control.

Next stop, one of the many Hives in the city. These are buildings that have been taken over by the viral infection, becoming a pulsing, organic structure. You arrive to find complete chaos on the streets – tanks, choppers and soldiers are fighting a losing battle against hordes of infected, including powerful beasts like Hunters. Explosions and screams rent the air. You fire off a few rockets, but your gunship is soon taken down. You wade through the chaos, slicing apart anything that stands in your way, and dealing with any Hunters by keeping your distance and impaling them on jagged spikes. The infected humans and soldiers with machine guns are little more than distractions, but the tank shells, Blackwatch soldiers with missile launchers and the Hunters can actually sting. Good thing you can consume a Hunter when it's near death and get a whole lot of your health back.
You leave a bloody path in your wake as you move across to the two tanks in the area. You leap up high above one and elbow drop it, reducing it to a blackened husk instantly. You then hop atop the other, rip open the entrance hatch and take control; its rockets make short work of the Hive building, and the area calms down... for the moment.
